Globalization – Is it really a blessing?

The world is uniting and moving towards the much advanced way of living. Where it used to take months and years to go from one place to the other; with globalization, it is just a matter of few hours or few minutes. Globalization is making the world walk hand-in-hand and is seen as a very important aspect of development in the human civilization. It has many positive effects on the development of the world and is helping it to conquer even the impossible things.

It cannot be denied that the world has progressed a lot after the globalization came into its effect. But on the same time, this progress has fainted many cultural identities and its charm. The more this world is becoming globalized, the more it is acquiring one color, which is definitely taking away the other colors. There are so many developing countries which are adapting the Western way of living while losing their own local culture. For e.g., China is a country where there are many cultural activities that talks about the beauty of the Chinese culture. The festivals like Dragon Boat festival and Mid-Autumn festival, which have a very unique identity are becoming less popular. Instead of enjoying their own culture, people are more into celebrating the Western culture and festivals. If it continues this way, a day will come when there will be no Chinese culture celebrated and they will only remain in the books.

It is good to learn about other culture, their food habits and their way of living; but forgetting oneself and adapting the other culture altogether, is really a threat for many cultures.
There are different languages spoken in different countries and in different regions or cultures. The globalization has entered into the lives of people so much that they need to interact with people in the other country every now and then. English, being a global language, many people use it in their day to day life. It has also become a sign of dignity and fashion. So, people take pride in talking in English and ignoring their native language. This has decreased the knowledge of the local language in the recent generation. For e.g., India itself is a country with many different languages. There are more than 1500 languages that are spoken in the country. A recent research showed that the upcoming generation of the country do not even know the basic of their individual languages.

This is really stunning. Where the entire world is busy in adapting the latest technology and increasing the value of the shares, the real identity of the individuals is becoming faded. Globalization happened so that the entire world can meet together and think about how to take out the best out of this life. But forgetting one’s culture and singing one song, will definitely make everything monotonous and put the world in a back step, somewhere or the other. Like the above image, may be at the end, we shall be left with just the skeleton of very few cultures while the others will be forgotten, forever.
